BTC Visits WMC

World Mobile Congress is one of the world's leading events for those of us interested in mobility. Held in Barcelona it attracts more than 60,000 visitors annually - with this year no exception - there were so many WiFi access points running together in the exhibition floor that it has been close to impossible to get through that RF confusion to get to the Internet. Photo of the main entrance below.

Insiders talk about the event as being 50% plumbing (base stations, towers, backhaul etc) and 50% revenue driving - and this year for sure its all about Apps, and the BTC team is here at WMC to experience the event first hand.

The big announcements on the hardware side have been new handsets from LG (first quad core Android handsets) and Samsung - Galaxy Note Tablet (I'm still not totally won over on the "phablet" market so lets see if this form factor get more positive comments). Check out the status made entirely of LG Android phones below.

And in software, Microsoft has had a strong presence here (including letting us "outsiders" in to their special drinks function :) - with a contest that set Windows Phone against Android and iOS in a "speed to perform a specific task test - with (no surprise) the Windows Phone coming out on top in most test - could be something to do with a skilled operator as much as OS efficiency in one's opinion.

The BTC team is here on the Apperian Booth - Apperian is here showing the EASE platform and has launched their new website. Check it out

More insights to come here at the end of the show.

BTC launches BTCDashboard v2.0

BTCDashboard V2.0 is now available for download from the AppStore.

BTCDashboard v2.0 brings some great enhancements to the platform that are the foundation of what will be an exciting year for BTC in 2012.

Key Updates in V2.0 include:

Flow UI
BTCDashboard v2.0 introduces the new Flow UI to Dashboard.
Flow UI makes it even easier to find content and information within Dashboard at a glance.
Channels are now separated and Stories are shows separated and with the title under the Story graphic.

New Story Detail View
Flow UI includes a new Story detail view that makes viewing content even easier and more powerful - including
  • Comments moved to inline below local Story content
  • More room for file names
  • Control buttons moved to left
Flow UI - Feeds
The Flow UI is extended throughout the app into Feeds - where RSS content is now shown in a more dynamic basis and with easier to view, separated content.

Tabs
V2.0 introduces Tabbed content browsing into BTCDashboard. The Tabs interface lets the Admin define Tabs that group Channels into a single screen.
Tabs allow the Admin to create groups of Channels that would be show on a device screen.  A Customer facing Tab can be created showing Channels for customers information and an Internal Tab with Channels containing internal information can be created and shown as required by a user.
Tabs also include the ability to create Webtabs. Webtabs extend the capability of Tabs to create centralised web bookmarks in the server and deliver those bookmarks to users devices enabling each user to have rapid access to web information.
Intelligent Link Processing
V2.0 introduces Intelligent Link Processing where Dashboard will open true web links internally within Dashboard. Dashboard will evaluate a link and will allow Custom URLs and other special URLs to open outside the Dashboard.

and other interesting changes and developments.

Lots of exciting changes are planned for 2012 - we hope you get a chance to experience Dashboard v2.0

BTCForum 2012 - the wrap-up

Thank you to all the attendees for the BTCForum2012 - held on the 21st Feb at the Swissotel Sydney.

The event was a great success, thanks to the fantastic speakers and guests.

Starting from the Keynote address given by Mr Chuck Goldman - through to the Open Panel - there were some fantastic presentations and lots of lively discussion.

Chuck's stories from his days at Apple were entertaining, and his views of the future of Enterprise Mobility were insightful.  Other great speakers included Denise Carson from UXC was able to share the importance of planning your rollout, and the team from Artis Group who were able to demo live their innovative developments in location based networking for the enterprise.

Special thanks go to Iggy Pintado for both an amazing talk about the impact of social media on enterprise mobility and for his help in organising the event.

Lastly, My Rob Langtry from AWI who presented on the impact of mobility on transforming a global enterprise. Not only engaging and powerful, but brought a tear to the eye of every Aussie in the room to think about the struggles of the local wool producer and a smile to their face thinking about the transformation happening now and the impact of mobility on that change - and also thanks Rob for the great videos - that kept everybody glued to their seats!

Lots was also leaned by the BTC team - including making sure that we get the right room structure for an important event like this and to be sure to include more access to demos and apps running in the break areas.

Lastly a great suggestion about conducting an app contest around the next Forum - great idea!

Thanks again to all for making this first Forum a great success. We are looking forward to bring the Forum to other regions in 2012 and again in 2013
